Winter can be a tricky time for horse owners. Shorter days, cold weather, and muddy arenas can make it harder to maintain a consistent routine — but it’s also the perfect opportunity to focus on safe, structured work that keeps your horse moving every day.
A safe, structured daily warm-up for your horse is essential. It’s especially important if your horse is being worked straight from the stable, or if the weather is colder and muscles are stiffer. A proper warm-up loosens the joints, wakes up the core muscles, and reduces the risk of injury—helping your horse move with more comfort and confidence.
While autumn is beautiful, it also comes with its own set of challenges. But with the right approach, autumn can be the perfect season to build your horse’s foundation so they move into winter stronger, straighter, and more resilient.
As we head towards winter here in the UK, we are already experiencing dark nights, much shorter days, the weather is turning, our horses routines are changing....lots of changes with our horses as the seasons change. And it can feel quite negative and difficult. So I'm here to help you with some mindset and motivation tips as we head towards winter! You can either give up for winter OR make a plan!!
