Core work over the winter with your horse

core engagement exercise Feb 03, 2022

The winter months can be a great time to be doing some foundation level improvement with your horse.

Short days and difficult weather conditions mean for a lot of us that we are doing less riding (I’ll admit to this - I’m more of a fair weather rider these days!!).

BUT there’s still plenty that we can turn our focus to with our horses training, to be getting ready for springtime!

I use and teach both core mobilisation and core activation exercises, these are quick to do, your horse will enjoy them, and the benefits are numerous!

If you spend 10-15 minutes a day doing these exercises for the next couple of months, you can have made quite a difference to your horse in that time, in terms of flexibility, postural improvement, core strength, and symmetry!

Our horses have natural crookedness and poor posture to deal with, as well as being a pretty poor design for riding. So my thoughts are that we have quite a bit of work to do with our horses to reach a good 'baseline' before we can get back into proper exercise in the springtime, especially if your horse has had a winter break, or less exercise to maintain their core strength.

And this is why I developed my ebooks and training courses, to help horse owners to learn HOW to do these specific exercises properly and effectively, without the horse cheating.

These exercises work at the foundation level, so will help to improve their posture, core strength, symmetry and flexibility. And the knock on effect with this, is that ridden work is much improved, more symmetrical, and your horse will find exercise and movements much easier, as you have worked on all of this for a period of time, and re-trained how they organise their body and released stiffness through the body.

You can solve some of your problems with your horse by implementing these exercises...:

  • Get horse off forehand
  • Mobilise then strengthen thoracic sling muscles
  • Improve posture
  • Improve core strength
  • Reduce back pain
  • Increase flexibility
  • Improve joint health
  • Reduce stiffness
  • Improve symmetry
  • Improve movement
  • Develop long and low frame
  • Develop 'working over the back'

If you are rehabbing, or bringing your horse back into work, or just re-starting, or on a winter break, or snowed in, or have no turnout, or have a senior horse, or a competition horse - basically ALL horses will improve with these exercises, whatever you are doing!

They are stable based exercises that you can add to your daily routine - it's like doing some pilates every day, and it definitely has a cumulative effect!!

Because I believe in these exercises so much, and always see positive results with horses doing these exercises, I have just released a BRAND NEW online course just focussed on these specific important exercises: 'Core Mobilisation & Core Activation Exercises'.

I cover posture in detail, both core mobilisation and core activation exercises in detail, with descriptions, positioning, images, tip, videos AND I have set up a new Facebook group for my course students where you can ask questions.

The course is set at a very low start price as it's brand new, and I want to share the 'nitty gritty' detail of these exercises with as many horse owners as possible as they are so effective!
